Put money in my purse!
Apr 25th, 2007 by Debra Murphy
I actually started this category, “Put money in my purse,” over at the Catholic writing/fiction/publishing blog I do, but this is almost certainly the better venue for these little kvetches/notices, because what I’m always wanting (and lacking) is money to travel to far away places to see wonderful actors do this or that juicy Shakespeare role.
A month or two ago my beef was that I couldn’t afford to hop on a plane to NYC to see F. Murray Abraham play Shylock. A while before that it was Christopher Plummer’s Lear and Toby Stephens Hamlet…sigh.
Today it’s Pete Postlethwaite doing Prospero in Manchester, England. Oh, fuss and bother!
Here’s the story, from The Guardian Unlimited.
And to add insult to injury, I see from Northwest Public Radio’s Robin Rilette that Kyle MacLachlan (much beloved of Clan Murphy for his turn as Dale Cooper, the second greatest TV character of all time, and as an Oregon Shakespeare Festival Alumnus) was recently back in his home town of Yakima WA doing a reading of Henry V with the Yakima Symphony! Blast, I might have actually made that one if I’d known about it beforehand, Yakima not being too far afield. But then I just dropped a WAD buying tickets for our Oregon Shakespeare Festival pilgrimage this summer, especially their R & J with Dan Donohue as Mercutio–tickets are going fast, so I bought ahead and am now officially BROKE..
